Chips: Does it really work?

Have you ever wondered if Chips does indeed make a difference? Or if your support really goes to benefit the Swazi people?

We understand your questions, which are valid and help keep us accountable to you our wonderful support team. In this post, we will share with you a personal story of how Chips has impacted someone's life in a positive way.

July Siza Lubisi is from the settlement Macetuka and is 31 years old. He came into the Chips program in March 2010, very sick and unable to support his family. April 2010 he was initiated onto HARRT. Over the last year he has made excellent progress and is now stable health wise. July is working in South Africa and is able to provide for his family. July returns to his homestead every three months for his HAART refills at the local Vuvulane clinic and is very responsible about his long term medical care.
We're so pleased with July's incredible progress and know without a doubt that he wouldn't be where he is today without being in the Chips program.  Many thanks from July and the two of us for supporting us and consequently the Chips program. We couldn't do the work here without you!

The great shoe and veggie give-away!

Monday we, Mary and I (Jenn), started the great shoe give away! We had 6 boxes of children’s shoes donated to Chips which is one box for each area that we serve.  Also we have a huge surplus of cabbage, lettuce, beetroot and spinach from our garden so it will be the great veggie give away as well.  Our garden is producing so many more crops than last year which is a huge praise report! While Mary and I were doing the giveaway, Jabulane and Ian went Manzini to take the kombi to get certificates of road worthiness.

The data base that the four of us have been working on is finally coming together. It's taken a lot of work and we even brought some of it home to catch up on. Last week we received a couple boxes of clothing to pass out. It never ceases to amaze us how God continues to provide much needed items for us to pass out to those who are most needy. Truly He cares for the ones that have nothing of their own. Please continue to pray with us that God will provide for all of the needs of the wonderful people that we serve and that they would be drawn to know Him through the tangible evidence of His love.

3 excited kids, 1 spinning canoe and a mission!

What do you get when you put three kids in a canoe and give them a mission to get to an island? A humorous scene with one kid paddling like crazy and the other two giving conflicting directions causing the canoe to spin in circles and get stuck in the weeds!

Two weeks ago, I, Ian, went to help out with the Simuyne children's Sunday school camp. The theme was the Armor of God and being more than conquerors in Christ. On Saturday the kids were split up into three groups. Another leader and I were in charge of the group at the dam. The kids had to get into a canoe, paddle out to the island, find the memory verse on the island, memorize it and then had to come repeat the verse to us before heading back to do their next task. There were many laughs while watching the kids struggle to make it to the island and back!

I lead one message on Ephesians 6:10-18 about putting on the armor of God and we even had an armor suit that the kids used to put on. The kids shared that they had learned about faith, trust, and working together. Sunday morning we shared about the mind and attitude of a conqueror. At the end of the message, six children came and gave their life to Christ. One of the kids came up to me and asked me to pray with him since he wasn't sure that he was saved.
It was such a blessing to be with the children and to see how much they love the Lord. I also learned how much God can do when you are focused on Him.

Winter is over... soon the rains will come

Thankfully the cold winter is over now. Though the warm wool blankets that we were able to pass out came in very handy and were a source of blessing to the recipients. The heavy rains will be coming soon and then it will be a challenge to stay dry.

Praising Jesu

Jabulane talking with a Chips patient
We are praising Jesu that all of our Chips patients are stable and non are in the hospital at this time.
Kim and Brandi
Kim and Brandi are two college gals who came to do their 6 month internship with Chips. They are getting sociology degrees and already know SiSwati. Kim and Brandi lead praise and worship with the kids at Khomba and did a fantastic job. We are thankful to have them here!

The Khomba children enjoyed the praise and worship.
It was a great time of singing, dancing and generally having fun.
Another praise, Bonginkosi is now a proud, happy dad to a little boy. Cebile and the baby are both doing well.

Closed Door

Due to the economic situation in Swaziland and the risks involved, the funds to purchase the Brown buildings for the Chips Community Center will not be released at this time. This sad news came in the last week or so. The owner of the buildings has been notified that Chips cannot proceed with the purchase.

We, along with the rest of the Chips team, are disappointed as the buildings would be ideal to facilitate the growth of Chips and more effectively reaching Maphiveni and the surrounding communities. However, we know that God's plans are not our plans and His ways aren't our ways. We are taking the next few months to really seek God's direction, guidance and provision in this area. Chips does need to acquire some buildings in order to continue growing.

Would you please pray for us to be in tune with God and that His plan would be revealed clearly to all the members of the team? Also, that God's provision would be more than we could ask or hope? This way, whatever does happen, God will get all the glory for it. On our own we have no options to pursue.
